Prof. Dr. Syed Atiqul Haq

Prof. Dr. Syed Atiqul Haq is a highly renowned Rheumatology specialist in Dhaka, Bangladesh, with expertise in arthritis (RA), knee osteoarthritis (OA), spondyloarthritis (SpA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and osteoporosis. He is the Ex. Chairman and Professor of Rheumatology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and currently serves as the Chief Consultant at Green Life Center for Rheumatic Care and Research, Dhaka. Widely recognized as the best rheumatologist in Bangladesh, he established the country’s first Rheumatology clinic in 1991 and played a pioneering role in founding the Bangladesh Rheumatology Society in 1997, where he now serves as President. He also initiated the COPCORD Study Group in Bangladesh in 2000 and became the first Chairman of the Rheumatology Department at BSMMU in 2012. Prof. Dr. Haq was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2003 and the International Fellowship of the American College of Rheumatology in 2005. His academic interests include the epidemiology of rheumatic disorders, knee osteoarthritis, and SLE, and he has made remarkable contributions to advancing rheumatology training, practices, and research in Bangladesh.
